Well if you remember the hype of HD and Super HD then you probably have an understanding on what 4K is. In consumer terms, 4K is a resolution of 3,840 x 2,160 pixels (versus the 1920 x 1080 found in your 1080p TV). With 4K movies and TV shows being released in recent years, it’s no surprise it has made its way over to the gaming industry. So what do I need to play 4K games, just a 4K TV?
Well, it’s a little more confusing than this and we’ll explain why. When a new console or TV claims it supports 4K playback you have to double and triple check the facts to see if it means 4K or UHD or something in between. Remember the HD Ready nonsense which essentially meant it wasn’t HD Ready? Well TV manufacturers are set to scam you again. Then there’s the console. The Xbox One S was the first of the big consoles to get UHD support but that support is only for streaming (think Netflix)! So it’s nonsense and this is why you need to be careful, do your research and possibly wait until there are more clarifications from TV producers and gaming providers!
