Gone Home: An evolution of a genre

Sometimes a product releases that is moving and affecting because of the themes on show; the ones that we recognise as people and as players that maybe speak to our past, or speak to any struggles we might have in our lives. Gone Home did both of those things for many people. Another of the “walking simulators,” Gone Home takes place in an old family house. There’s just you there, as the rest of your family has gone out when you return from travelling abroad. You walk around the house, exploring rooms and listening to your sister narrating several key discoveries while you read her letters.

The game is set in the 90s; when Nirvana were going strong and punk was the order of the day. As you explore the house you can hear grunge music from the tape players, the X Files series on VHS are strewn over the floor and many other little nuances that people who grew up in the 90s will resonate with.
