Occasionally we hear stories about the sheer volume of people and man hours involved in making games. 200 hundred people here, 150 there, 10 years in production with millions spent on wages and advertising. It can be frightening and when we understand that we understand why there’s so much pressure on developers to make a good game (and pressure for it to sell well to make a return on investment.) Very rarely, though, we see smaller games come to the fore that do exceptionally well.
Banished is one such title; a small game in the survival genre where you need to build a settlement, and hopefully turn it into a town, and hopefully guide your people to safety through harsh conditions. It was made by one man. One single person made a game that looks great, plays well and have a massive amount of depth. We can only imagine what AAA games would be like with this kind of drive and skill.
