The new Doom game was approached with trepidation by many of the diehard fans in the beginning. It is worth bearing in mind that the original game had one of the larger cult followings within the gaming world, so there was a fairly large number of fans set to be dissapointed. For once, in the sphere of remakes, this wasn’t the case though, with a remarkably positive response to the game.
The game is clearly very well made. The maps that you work through in the campaign are all engaging and challenging. There are 5 difficulty settings to choose from, and, from personal experience, the most difficult option is virtually impossible for a first-time playthrough. If you’re a casual gamer who likes it to be challenging but without dying over 20 times every confrontation, either the second or third difficulty is probably going to be ideal for you.
The multiplayer is also a pretty interesting experience. It mirrors some of the experiences fans of games like halo will remember, but there are some unique and engaging aspects to it as well.
