If you are someone who has looked into playing games online with fellow gamers, you have likely come across a cost. A cost that may have not been expected from your console. Consoles charge you a subscription to play their games online. Now, this can become quite an expensive hobby, especially if you do not think you will use it often, so is it really worth the money?
Playstation Plus (their online gaming platform) currently costs £6.99 a month, £19.99 quarterly, or £49.99 yearly. Xbox Live Gold (their online gaming platform) costs £7.00 a month, £18 quarterly, or £50.00 yearly. For Nintendo Switch Online, you can pay £3.49 a month, £6.99 quarterly, or £17.99 yearly for an individual account. They also offer a family account for up to 8 people for only £31.49 a year.
Are These Online Gaming Platforms Worth It?
In simple terms, yes they are worth the money. As long as you believe you will use them a substantial amount to cover the cost. It is entirely down to your own thoughts on them. How much do value the ability to be able to play games online with your friends? How much you value being able to meet people through these online games?
It works best if you are purchasing any of these online gaming subscriptions on a yearly payment plan. The yearly payment plan makes the monthly subscription significantly less than if you signed up for the monthly plan.
We do believe that gamers should not have to pay for these online gaming abilities and that they should be included in the high cost of the console itself. But we know the companies need to make their money somehow. So whilst the price isn’t too shockingly high, especially for the Nintendo Switch, if you want to play your games online with friends, we would recommend you using these platforms. They will be worth the money in the end.
