Our thoughts on ‘For Honor’

Let’s be honest, there is no shortage of video games that feature sword combat, whether its in a dark crypt somewhere in Skyrim or a Darkwraith on the High Wall of Lothric, gamers locked in mortal combat with digital foes is more common now than it ever was!

There is just something satisfying about cutting down a challenging foe with a blade or ax and reaping the reward of that victory before plunging ahead into the next skirmish. So naturally in a market already rife with games featuring hand-to-hand combat it can be hard to stand out. For Honor though, cuts its way to the forefront with ease. Unlike most games that rely heavily on the hack-and-slash mechanics, For Honor introduces a certain finesse to swordplay that most games lack. The unique control scheme emphasises timing of your attacks and proper countering of the enemies strikes as well. The multiplayer battles play out almost like choreographed dances, with each man looking for the perfect moment to land the coup de grĂ¢ce on his opponent.

Your choice of soldier plays a key role on how you approach each battle. The game will initially feature 3 factions loosely representing historical versions of knights, Vikings, and samurai. Within each faction are specific classes. Each class comes with different weapons and abilities that impact in-game action significantly. A fast moving samurai can attack quickly but may lack the finishing power of the more heavily armoured knight for example. Ultimately, choosing a warrior that fits your play style and the needs of the team is paramount.

For Honor employs a number of tried and true multiplayer mechanics but it also introduces a number of fresh ideas into the market that are sure to garner the attention of gaming community. For Honor will be released on February 14 worldwide. Look for us on the battlefield!
